The purpose of NEW VOICES is to discover, nurture, empower and help launch the careers of talented emerging writers who have a fresh voice and a unique worldview.

In partnership with ABC Studios, CBS Studios, HBO Entertainment, FX, NBCUniversal, and Warner Brothers Studios, HUMANITAS awards four $15,000 grants to emerging writers whose work personifies the kind of writing HUMANITAS has honored for almost four decades. In addition to the grant, the winning writers write a pilot script under the supervision of a HUMANITAS Advisory Council member/Showrunner.

2013 New Voices winners Stephen Cedars, Benji Kleiman, and Scott Yacyshyn met at UCLA and have been working together since 2006. They won the award for Best Comedy Short at the LA Comedy Shorts Festival two years in a row. They perform a weekly live improv show in Silverlake under their moniker, The Olde Money Boyz.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

Any new or emerging writer, represented or unrepresented with a body of work, can apply. Applicants can, but are not required to, have television experience up to the level of staff writer.

HOW ARE THE WINNERS CHOSEN?

Applicants participate in a rigorous selection process which includes submitting written samples, personal interviews, and pitching sessions. Four winners will be announced at the annual HUMANITAS Awards.

Each writer will receive a $15,000 grant to write an original pilot under the supervision of a showrunner/mentor. Mentors are most often from the HUMANITAS Advisory Council or members of the Board of Directors. Once completed, the script will be submitted to a studio partner for consideration.
