Humanitas was founded in 1974 to honor and empower writers exploring the human condition across film and television. As an organization, we not only value the role of writers in society, but recognize storytelling as the core of the entertainment industry.
We celebrate the stories that explore the human experience because we believe that the act of acknowledging our common humanity is transformational.
At a critical time for the role of art in American culture, we view any pause in writers’ work, no matter the length of time, as a missed opportunity to learn from and to be inspired by them, and to connect deeply with each other around their ideas.
Writers who are not fairly compensated are not fully valued.
Today, as we have for almost 50 years, Humanitas supports and stands with the thousands of writers who make up our creative community.
