The Breakout Writer Award announces the arrival of a new and distinct voice in film and television.

Created in partnership with the African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA), the inaugural Breakout Writer Award was conferred to Lulu Wang at the 45th Humanitas Prize Event in recognition of The Farewell.
